The Guimarães county headquarters are located in the old Saint Clara Convent, a XVI century building with a baroque facade, and a two story cloister.

The Guimarães county gison3dmap system, was installed on July 5th, 2011, in a room immediatelly to the right of the main convent entrance, and gives to its visitors, a unique perspective into the county territory.

The system uses a 2.33 x 2.08 meter 3D solid terrain model of the whole Guimarães county territory, at the 1:10.000 scale, where any of the Guimarães geographical data themes can be seen projected.

Using two FullHD Mitsubishi FD630U projectors, located on the room ceiling, as seen in the image on the right, it is possible to project geographic information on top of the model, together with the synchronized presentation of multimedia contents on the two LCD screens located on the room walls.

The interaction with the system is made using the client applications, VisualSIG and Powerpoint, which run in a multimedia kiosk located in front of the model South side.

With the Powerpoint client, slides seen on the kiosk screen, will be shown also on the two LCD screens. Projections on the 3D solid model can occur automatically with slide transitions or be associated with buttons. Buttons can also be used to initiate videos, which in turn, can originate syncronyzed projections on the 3D model.

In an initial phase the system will be used for the public presentation and discussion of the county master plan revision process.

Later, the system will be used for touristic purposes, as part of the Guimarães 2012 - European Capital of Culture. The image next, shows the counties covered by the model, with their respective names, with the Guimarães county rendered using the Guimarães Capital of Culture logo.
